Bio

Rene received her B.A. degree in History & Political Science from Loma Linda University (La Sierra Campus) in 1986, followed by a year studying German at the University of Regensburg, Germany, as a Rotary International Scholar. Before attending law school, she worked as a health educator for the County of San Bernardino promoting environmental health and recycling in schools and to the public. Rene went on to receive her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1995, and returned to the Inland Empire to practice law.

As an attorney, she has presented on a number of related topics, such as probate administration, challenges of serving as a trustee, conservatorships and special needs trusts.

Practice Area

  • Estate planning
  • Trust Administration
  • Probate

In private practice, Rene has represented clients in estate planning, trust and probate administration, conservatorships, and special needs trusts for the disabled, as well as civil and corporate matters. Prior to becoming a partner with Dolen, Tucker, Tierney and Abraham, Rene worked with another local firm, Brunick, McElhaney & Beckett, in San Bernardino and Redlands.

Many clients postpone meeting with an attorney because they think the process is “painful”. Some ask, “What exactly is an estate plan, and why do I need one?”, followed by statements like, “I don’t even have an estate. All I have is debt.” Each client has different needs. The attorney’s task is to get to know the clients’ needs, family dynamics, and motivations for planning for their future. Rene’s focus, and the firm’s commitment, is to prepare a plan that is right for them. For some clients, an estate plan may mean a trust, will, health care directive, and power of attorney for financial management. For other clients, it may mean only
a will and power of attorney and health care directive. Rene’s job is to help a client understand the difference between the “estate planning tools” and the reasons for picking one tool over another.

Professional Organizations/Memberships

Rene is a member of the State Bar of California, the California Lawyer’s Association (Trusts & Estates), San Bernardino County Bar Association (Member, Probate Section), and a board member of the Estate Planning Council of San Bernardino County.
